Year Recap of School 2k18!

WALT: Reflect on 2k18!

I have created a presentation and a short little summary about 2k18! Here is the summary!

It was my first year of becoming apart of the Kia Manawanui syndicate and becoming one of the elder kids in the school. I was very excited to move on from my yr 6 journey  and into my new adventure as a year 7. Their were very high expectations in the KM syndicate but I knew I was ready to take on the challenge and become a new addition to the syndicate!

Over these terms I have now not only become a student leader and apart of the Tamaki band but I have taken part in creating the Manaiakalani movies, KM Talent Show, presenting for Manaiakalani, Athletics, going to Camp Raglan, Going to Rainbows End but the one thing I am really proud of is making new friends and creating more bonds with the students in the KM syndicate this year!

Freestyle Writing! - An Average Trip to School

The wind rushed through her hair, as she descended the mountain at great speed. For most

children this would be an exhilarating, even terrifying experience. But for Lucy it was just an

ordinary journey to school.

Lucy’s house is far up the mountain top, the house everyone can see but never enters, some

people rumour thats where this old man had died while creating a brand new amusement park

for kids but he could only finish one design, his Zip Line, no one has yet had the initiative to

finish his amusement park for him.

Now since Lucy has been living in her house she has been going down that Zip Line to her

school. She could just walk, drive or even just ride her bike down to school but why would you

want to do all of those things when you could simply just zipline your way to school.

At first this used to be her least favourite part of the days because it would always mess up her

hair but she has just gotten used to it and has now just given up. She now just goes down this

zip line just like you would down a slide, now she is no longer afraid of roller coaster.

Since Lucy's house is very high above she usually ends up leaving around 7:40 then she usually

reaches ground after 2 minutes, and then it takes her about 5 minutes to walk to her school, so

that leads her to have 3 minutes to get ready for class before school starts at 8:00am.

Lucy goes to an ordinary school, with ordinary people, but yet she's so unordinary to everyone

at her school. Her school is quite similar to manaiakalani schools but instead of netbooks

everyone uses an Ipad which almost takes up all the space in Lucy's bag which also piles up

with her lunch and her sports gears she uses for her soccer team (Mighty Parrots). This makes

Lucy's bag really full and quite heavy but she just got used to it because she would just have to

wear her heavy bag down a long zipline. Its an average trip to school, with such a plot twist each day.

Writing Task - Persuasive Arguments

Persuasive arguments!

For writing we are learning about how to have a persuasive argument, or in other words a debate.

Ms. Aireen had casted a presentation with sentence starters so we could use those sentences starters for our debate! We had also had different statements that we had to agree or disagree on! The 3 statements we had were:
1.  10 year old kids should be aloud to drive?
2. Learning the Te Reo Maori Language should be compulsory for every student in NZ to learn?
3. There should be no school rules!

For the first statement I disagreed with this statement because...
I think that 10 year old kids are too young to be driving and that if 10 year old kids could barely ride a bike or are too immature there is no way that 10 year old kids should be behind a steering wheel of a car.

For the second statement I had disagreed, I have disagreed with this statement because...
it is known fact that the treaty of Waitangi had not been signed by just the Te Reo Maori culture but was also signed by the  culture of the British so gives NZ the rights of speaking English and Maori so that is why I think it should be compulsory for NZ to learn that speaking of a language.

For the last statement that was an obvious disagree because...
Kids shouldn't be able to control their actions that they show at school  without having no rules because from experience that I have been through I have noticed that kids tend to be more crazy and wild once a parent leaves so you can imagine the destruction caused if there were no rules. I disagree that there should be no school rules but I do feel that some school rules could change, for example; I think that the out of bounds rule should change and we should be able to walk to the shops during break time with a teacher to get lunch.

Turning Old into New - Reading Task!

WALT: Analyse the Key Ideas of the text!

For reading we are learning to Analyse the main points/key ideas about the new text we are reading,

"Turning Old Into New".

This story is about how we recycle and how our rubbish is affecting our Earth. We have found out many new things for example,

Did you know that you can recycle gum into GUM-boots, phone covers and even just ordinary shoes.

For our tasks we have to answer some questions or tasks on the slides 10, 11 and 13. Here are 3 images of the questions and tasks I have to do!

We have to create a DLO (Digital Learning Object), such as a Presentation, Screencastify , Oral Video, Powtoon and etc. I have decided to create a Powtoon because I usually just present my work with a Google Drawing or Presentation, but I wanted to present my work in a new way! I am not yet ready to have finished my task but I know that I am getting closer and closer! I have only done my task on Slide 10 and now I am starting on my Slide 11 task!

Something I have enjoyed about this task was learning more about where our waste goes and reading about our environment and how our mess can cause so much damage.

What I found challenging about this task was trying to stay focused because I would like to get this DLO/ Powtoon over and Done!
