🌈Rainbows End Trip Reflection🌈

🌈RainbowEnTrip Reflection🌈

IALT: Reflect about my time at Rainbows End!

On Tuesday we went to rainbows and I was very excited because I LOVE Rainbows End and I was excited to go on all the rides with my friends. I was overflowing with excitement!

We were lining up at the Invader with my group Hevani, Grace, Stephney, Syraiah-lee, Lydia, Coralee, Carra, Fine and Ms. Ashley. We first decided to go onto the Invader. We were waiting with some of our other friends in other groups such as, Leilani, Kensington, Perenara, Arizona and Aletheia but unfortunately they didn't make it to hop on the ride with us because they were too late to join on when we were on. I was on the seat looking out and were ready to let loose for when we go spinning and up and down. The next ride we went on was the Rollercoaster because we wanted to try hop on before the lines got too packed, we all got to the Rollercoaster and I was excited and ready because in my opinion I don't really think that a rollercoaster is a scary ride. I liked going on the loop on the rollercoaster because you went upside down!

Fast forwarding to the next ride we went to the Log Flume and I can most definitely say that the Log Flume was the LONGEST LINE! It took for ages to get to the front of the line but sooner or later we were there. Since the maximum of the Long Flume was 3 it was Hevani, Stephney and I and Grace and Lydia in the other Log. I hadn't been on the Log Flume in a long time so I forgot how steep it is to go down the waterfall but I was ready to get scared and excited. There were many things in the caves like pirates, animals and Skeletons so it was very surprising. After the Log Flume we rushed straight forward to the Power Surge because as soon as we got in the line for the Log Flume the Power Surge opened up so we were determined to go there. When were waiting in line it took quite a while because everyone else saw that the Power Surge was opened so they rushed there too because I guess that ride is pretty popular. I was sitting with Stephney because why not? It was very funny watching other people reactions because I saw some people closing there eyes, calling for there mums name and some just laughing. I thought that the Power Surge was a lot of fun but I wouldn't put it onto my favourite. After the Power surge we just had a light snack but I just had a little bit of water and some candy-floss because I was very eager to hop onto the next ride.

We were FINALLY heading over to my FAVOURITE ride after morning tea and we want onto... THE STRATOSFEAR!!! The Stratosfear is my favourite ride because although I am petrified I know that I will be there with my friends and we will do this ride together! I decided to sit next to my friends and my cousin Syraiah-lee because I have not spent that much time with Syraiah-lee ever since we were in different classes so I thought this was the perfect opportunity to hang out with her more. Syraiah-lee and I went onto the Stratosfear and the Bumper Boats together because we were very excited to hang out together. I was not so happy with the Bumper Boats because not only did I get splashed and bumped by people but 2 people had splashed into me at the same time so water came to cover my whole body leading my uniform, hair, and body wet; I was soaking! After I dried off a bit we had gone to the Fearfall (The most scariest ride in my opinion), and while we were waiting in line we had seen some of the yr 8 and 6 boys go into the line so we decided to just hang out with them until as soon as we were about to go onto the Fear Fall Syraiah-lee went to the bathroom but I was already on the ride before I noticed, all I could think was;
"That sneaky girl!". We once again hopped onto the Stratosfear but still with the boys and Samson and I was really excited to see there reactions because I didn't know if they were going to be scared, brave or just laughing. In the end of the ride I had discovered that Demetrius was screaming, Toma was Screaming and Laughing and Samson was screaming.

I was so happy that I had the opportunity to go to Rainbows End for being a Student Leader and a patroller. Now I cannot wait to go next year with hopefully some new people who would like to take a bit of responsibility and be able to go to Rainbows End next year!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you for reading and I hoped you enjoyed this reflection on my day at Rainbows End and thank you for reading!

Questions:
- What's your favourite ride at Rainbows End?
- What's your least favourite ride at Rainbows End?
- What do you think the scariest ride at Rainbows End is?
- Have you ever been to an amusement park? Which one?

Fun(ny) facts:
- A parent had threw up after a ride a Rainbows End.
- A few days before going to Rainbows End the Rollercoaster got stuck.
- When you go upside down on the Stratosfear it feels like you stay upside down for at least 5 seconds!

🚫Tech Cancelled (Except Hard Materials)🚫
IALT: Talk about how technology is cancelled tomorrow
As you know tomorrow we usually have Technology but instead the teachers for Cooking and Graphics (Mrs. Ferguson and Ms. Tuipoluitoa) will be absent and will not be able to teach our classrooms (I'm in cooking so I won't have tech), fortunately the Hard Materials class will still have there lesson so they are able to finish the Pendant.

I am very sad that we will no longer be having technology tomorrow but at least we can hopefully finish uncompleted tasks tomorrow in the KM Classroom with Ms. Komor!

Reading Task - Driving us into the Future Presentation!

Malo lelei unicorns, aliens, viewers or who or whatever you are and welcome back to my blog!

This week we are now focusing on a new topic for reading; last week we were reading about a text called designed for good (That text was about industrial designers who are planning to create a brand new pest trap). Our new topic that we are reading/writing about is this text called, "Driving us into the Future". Driving us into the Future is a text about the differences, pro's and cons, and facts about Electrical and Fuel cars.

This was my Buddy, Hevani
We have created a presentation about the Pro's, Cons, Positives, Negatives, Facts and Questions about Electrical cars on the presentation!

For this presentation my buddy was Hevani and I thought we had worked really collaboratively well together as we were learning new facts and discussing our ideas!

Here is the Presentation Hevani and I created about the Positives, Negatives and Questions about Electric cars!
-----------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Something I enjoyed about this task was finding out new things about Electrical and Fuelled powered cars because there are times where you would have to make decisions on which car to use so it was nice to hear about the pro's and cons for each car!

Something I found challenging about the task was debating and trying to convince Ms. Aireen as an example of our debating and evaluating skills because I was a bit nervous to stand up in class and show my opinion about whether or not Ms. Aireen would buy an electrical car theoretically.

My next steps are trying to find the answers to my questions but now I can interview one of the teachers (Ms. Gormly) who has an electric car and could hopefully ask her these questions!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I hope you enjoyed this blog and please comment what you think I can improve on!

Questions:
- If you would have a car would it be a electric or fuelled power car?
- Do you agree or disagree with Ms. Aireen getting a Electric car? Why?
- What is something you learnt about Electric Cars from this Presentation?

🌈Rainbows End Trip Coming Up!🌈
IALT: Talk about the upcoming Trip to Rainbows End that is happening tomorrow!

This term some students have been selected to go to Rainbows End. The students that have been chosen are because of responsibilities they have taken part of throughout the year. I have been chosen to go to Rainbows end because of my part taking in School Patrols and also as a Student leader. I am really excited to go to Rainbows End because I love going to theme parks and also ALL my best friends will also be attending the Rainbows End trip so we could possibly hop on all the rides together! I cannot wait to hop on the Stratofear because it is my favourite ride!

Maths Assessments!

Maths Assessments!
IALT: Use my maths thinking to solve questions from different categories of maths!

Malo lelei unicorns, aliens, viewers or who or whatever you are and welcome back to my blog!

For Maths we have been doing our Maths assessments where we were given a question relevant to decimals, Fractions and Division that we had to solve and screencastify us saying. We were given a slide each! I have decided to create a presentation with my answers, strategy and question for my Maths assessments!

Here is the Presentation:

Here are the Screencastify videos Links:

I hope you enjoyed this blog and please comment what you think I can improve on!

Questions:
How would you solve these questions?
Do you have another method of solving these problems?
Which strategy for each question that I used to solve was the easiest to you?

📖Critical Analysis!📖

📖Critical Analysis!📖
WALT: Analyse Critically from a still image!

Kia Ora unicorns, aliens, viewers or who or whatev
er you are and welcome back to my blog!
In the middle block before we were about to start on our Digital game for the University of Auckland we had a reading session about how we can critically analyse when be shown an odd but still image. There were 3 images exact but we had to choose one to publish about. Here are the 3 images and I will also caption which image I choose to analyse on!

This is the image I decided to analyse!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We were given 5 questions about what we think are in the background of this photo, we then had to answer them; Here are the questions and my answers to them:
Who took the photo?
I'm guessing that a news reporter would have taken this photo because they might have went past this scenario and thought about writing a story about this incident! My second thoughts are just the public because knowing this generation people seem to take photos of hazardous things instead helping out.
How is the subject represented in the photo?
The subject in this photo in my opinion is to teach people when they look at this photo to be careful when walking because there could be a possibility that you could end up in that mud puddle with policemen and the public looking at you!
How do different parts of the image contribute to these messages?
I believe the different parts contribute to the messages because the message to me seems to be that you should always careful when walking because you might end up in a puddle, and the parts of the image backing that statement is clearly the guy in the puddle and of course all the odd looks he is getting from strangers.
What if the photo was taken from a different angle or cropped differently?
I don't think the photo would be that different of taken from another angle or cropped because there is a possibility that there would still be the main points in the photo, like in my perspective the main points in this photo are the policemen and the man in the BIG PUDDLE!
How might different groups of people respond to the image?
They would probably find this photo quite odd as a man is just standing or floating in a BIG puddle. They might find this as a constructive working who accidently slipped into a puddle.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I hope you enjoyed my blog and please comment what you think I can improve on!

Questions:
What was your first thought when seeing these photos's?
Do you agree or disagree with my statements I have made? Why?
What would you do if you were the man in the Puddle?
What would you do if you were the policemen?

🌳The Native Bush - Reading Task!🌳

WALA: The innovation facts about the text, Designed for good.
Talofa unicorns, aliens, viewers or who or whatever you are and welcome back to my blog!

As you know for reading we have been reading about this article called Designed for good. Designed for good is about 3 industrial designers who are planning to make an innovation of a Pest trap. They have explained the process, how it works and and how there innovation is useful and can help.

We have used a new website called, "Kami", to highlight part of the text, add comments and to also circle important parts of the images that are in the text. We are now answering questions about our topic, The Native bush! Here are the questions and my answer!

What sorts of animals do we have in New Zealand?
In New Zealand some of the first ever animals to come into New Zealand were Rats, Kuri, (Dogs), Stoats, Deers and Possums. Did you know that these animals were brought to New Zealand for the fur and shockingly... SPORTS!
What do we mean by the native bush?
In my perspective I am guessing you meaning to the Native animals, plants and etc when you are saying the native bush.
Is it important to look after the bush? If so, whose responsibility is it?
It is very important to look after our native bush because if a lot of damage is happening we will be loosing our nature bit by bit which is also why we should NOT be littering!
When did the damage begin? Why are stoats especially dangerous?
Stoats are very dangerous because they are very vicious and are attacking our baby birds and eggs from birds nests.
Do we value some animals more than others? If so, why is that?
We value more animals more than others because some animals are more harmless than others like Dogs and Bears, Dogs are more harmless than Bears.

I hope you enjoyed this blog and please comment what you think I can improve on!

Questions:
Have you learned something about our Native bush?
How can you design for good?

Friday 16th of November arrived and we were getting ready to run, be challenged, chant till we lose our voice, and to hopefully win our name on the athletics shield! Everyone was prepared and ready for war!

We were all getting our face, legs and our arms face painted and adding accessories like tutu's, Capes and Ribbons in the colour of red since that was the colour to represent my house, TOBRUK! I was SO excited this year for athletics because I thought that this was the year that Tobruk was going to bounce back. Constance, Cerenity, Perenara, Leilani and I were the leaders for our house so our schedule was packed having to lose our voices while leading the chants, making sure the kids picked up there rubbish, be sure that kids were listening and to be a good role model.

We were marching with pride and chanting hard out around the bike track until we reached our Gazebo of red. We were then split up to go to different courses and to compete; there were different courses like:

- Stand Jump
- Long Jump
- High Jump
- Discuss
- & Shot put
I enjoyed playing High Jump and Stand Jump because during Stand Jump you had NO head start so you could really  challenge yourself, I also liked High Jump because it felt as if you were in the air landing on on a blue soft platform so you wouldn't get injured.

Last Para:

Lastly we did our running course where each age group of the houses had to verse each other for the race tracks. There were different races each time, for example:

- 50 meter race
- 75 meter race
- 100 meter race
- 400 meter race
I ran in the 400, 75 and 100 meter race and came 4th (75), 5th (100) and 7th (400). At the end of the races Tripoli and Benghazi won majority race's but we were about 3rd for our racing. After all the racing was lastly th relay race which I also took part of.

After all the racing we FINALLY had a break and decided to have a chant off where it was worth 50 POINTS! I was super pumped. We all screamed and chanted our hardest but sadly Benghazi ended up winning those 50 points but I knew we still did well! It was the moment and they were adding up the points, and the winner of 2018 was...
BENGHAZI!

Although I would like to say that our house could have won Benghazi had done a TERRIFIC JOB and they were very hard to compete up against.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I hope you enjoyed and please comment what you think I can improve on!

Questions:
What house are you in?
Do you like running?
Are you a fan of school athletics?

Fun Facts:
Tobruk and Benghazi are the only houses with 2 wins in a row!
Each house has won twice each time!
The Shield is a plack labelled with each house that has won every Athletics each year! So far the shield says:
Alamein (2011), Tripoli (2012), Alamein (2013), Tripoli (2014), Tobruk (2015), Tobruk (2016), Benghazi (2017), Benghazi (2018),

For reading we have been reading this article called designed for good. This article is about how 3 men are industrial designers and they are thinking of Innovating a pest trap. They have there design and are ready to test it out on possums, rats and etc;

We have used a new website called, "Kami", to highlight part of the text, add comments and to also circle important parts of the images that are in the text. We are now answering questions about our topic, Innovation; so here they are and also my answers:

Innovation:
Image result for innovaterWhat are 2 qualities of an Innovative Designer?
- A quality that an Innovative Designer needs is creativity. An Innovative designer needs to be creative because they need to be able to think of new ways to create/upgrade an invention in new, clever and of course... CREATIVE WAYS!

- Another quality an Innovative Designer needs is to be reliable. A designer needs to be reliable because they are put on the task to upgrade an invention to make it easier and better for people.

How innovative were Craig, Stu, and Robbie?
In my opinion I believe that Craig, Stu and Robbie were very innovated. I think they were really innovated because without them being very innovated they would not have been able to complete there innovention. That is why I will always believe that its good to be innovated because it is a way to help you to finish your innovation.

Image result for pest trap designed for goodHow did their design of a pest trap impact on the environment?
Craig, Stu and Robbie have made a trap impact on the environment because without there innovention some countries will not be able to get the original pest traps in there country because some of the equipment used are probably banned in there country where Craig, Stu and Robbie have used legal equipment.

Can we solve all problems with innovation?
Image result for evolution of the phoneI think innovation could solve multiple reasons; For example Innovation helped us when they invented smartphones and used these phones as the upgrades of the phones where you have a chord and must stay in a certain position. Another example of how we can solve our problems with innovation is that without being an innovator we would not be able to make a new pest trap as Craig, Stu and Robbie did si therefore we would not be able to kill as many pests as we need to.

🌧️In The Moment..Hailstones🌧️
"Tap, tap, tap" gently upon the building,
the cold, frozen water it's not want we need,
the gods must be in a low spirit,
so the hailstones are in all kinds of sizes and speed.

I can hear the water drifting and pouring its way down the roof.
I can hear the tree's whistling as the leaves are in a groove.
A big sheet of grey wants to come cover our sky,
shattering glass, and frozen rain which is now solid ice.

The thunders now coming to join in on the fun,
no more kids playing, and no more bright sun.
Then following are tiny droplets of rain,
"Splish, Splash, Splosh",
It's a slushy based on life, and it just froze my brain.

👍Maths - Adding Decimals!👍
Kia Ora unicorns, aliens, viewers or who or whatever you are and welcome back to my blog!

In the middle block we had been doing maths. I tend to talk more than work so that is something I really need to improve on! We were learning about how to add decimals and then colour code the numbers to get a design at the end. I am still on that task and I am almost getting there!

I was working with my friend Grace and she was helping me to answer some questions that I was unsure of since she had already finished the task. We were working on the yellow part of the colour coding.

One of the easier questions that I could solve was:
28.4+26.8=____
For this question I used Algorithm, I find Algorithim to be easier. Another trick I used is to take away the decimal point, I'm not sure why but I find it easier to add up whole numbers and then adding the decimal point back, instead of adding up decimals.

It goes from this:
  28.4
+26.8
--------
to this:
  284
+268
--------

I then add the numbers up from the right and then to the left and then use the last number for example if it was 14 I would use 4 and take the one and add it to the next number, like this:
  284
+268

  • 40+80=12
  • 80+60=140
  • 200+200=400
Image result for mathsNow It would end up as 552 because you have 2 from the 12 and take the 10 but change it to 1 and add it to 14 which then make 15 so you leave the 5 and take the 10 again and change it to 1 and add it to the 4 which makes 5 hundreds. Add it all up and that would hopefully make up 552.

Now since we took the decimal place you now put it after the 5 and before the 2 because the decimal points always have to be lined up! For example:

Here are 2 pictures of what I have done so far and what Grace has done for her colour coding.
  28.4
+26.8
--------
  55.2
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I hope you enjoyed this blog and hopefully understood my method of my explanation and if not tell me how I can improve it to make it more simple!

Image result for predator free nzWALA: The future plans for predators and how we can have a say in the statement!🚫🐱Predator Free🐱🚫

Kia Ora unicorns, aliens, viewers or who or whatever you are and welcome back to my blog!

In the first block we had a lady named Ms. Treena come into our classroom to teach us about what's happening in the world; we were learning about the people who are arguing about whether NZ should vanish all the predators or if we should keep them in Aotearoa.

We have identified that New Zealanders would like to get rid of Pests that are coming over to NZ by the year of 2050. They believe that pests are NOT good for our country and the more that the pests are coming, the more our Native animals like Kiwi's will die and possibly vanish from our country Aotearoa.
*We also checked out this Document and Presentation, Here they are:*

*Here is the Document*
Here is some evidence about this issue:

predator free logo.jpg
The Government group Predator Free 2050 is calling all New Zealanders to
help get rid of pests such as possums, rats and stoats by the year 2050.
Predators are said to kill millions of native birds every year and carry diseases
that can affect other animals such as beef cattle. Animal pests come from
outside New Zealand and are a danger to the country’s wildlife.
nz herald.png
The Morgan Foundation wants New Zealand to be free of all its predators by
the year 2050. They have upset cat owners because of their website called
‘Cats to Go’. This group wants New Zealanders to own only one cat and not
to get a new pet, if their cat dies. They state that cats are “pests” which are
“wiping out our native birds". Cats hunt birds, lizards, insects and other wildlife.
spinoff.jpg
Dr. Jamie Steer, in the magazine Spinoff, says we can’t keep New Zealand
completely native. He believes we need to get better at living with a mix of
animals and make sanctuaries for those that need extra protection.
DOC.png
The Department of Conservation (DOC) website lists 31 pests, for example:
DOC also lists wildlife that need protection from pests, for example:
Dr Jane Goodall, a well known anthropologist, believes New Zealanders should
change the way they talk about animals that are not natives to our country,
such as calling them “pests”. One of her reasons is that the term “pests”  does
not help people to show respect and kindness to all animals.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have learnt that most people think that we should give the predators another chance but I disagree. Here is an example of what one person has said about this situation:

This is what I replied with:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the end I have learned that we all have different opinions and I believe EVERYONE should get a say even if they are kids!
